In the past decade, Catalonia's exports have continued to grow, with overseas sales increasing by 70.8%. In 2023, Catalonia's overseas sales are leading in Spain, accounting for 26.2% of total exports. In terms of industry, Catalonia's overseas sales growth in the automotive industry (+39.1%), capital goods (+5.5%), food (+4.3%), and chemical products (3.8%) sectors is particularly noteworthy.

In 2023, the main destinations for Catalan exports are the European Union (+7.6%) and the United States (+16.8%). The development of various cities in the Canadian region is balanced, and overseas sales have all increased, including Barcelona (78.6268 billion euros,+6.6%), Tarragona (10.9998 billion euros,+4.9%), Girona (8.1314 billion euros,+4.4%), and Leirida (2.9256 billion euros,+0.8%). In addition, Catalonia's trade balance has improved, with imports decreasing by 1.6% compared to 2022, which means Catalonia's trade deficit has decreased by 44.8%.

The study by the Catalan Trade and Investment Authority indicates that in the context of global geopolitical fragmentation, climate crisis, and energy security conflicts, Catalan enterprises will face a series of international challenges in 2024. But as Roger Torrent, Director of the Catalan Department of Commerce and Labor, said, Catalonia's export data from last year showed the resilience, vitality, and adaptability of the region's commercial structure, proving that local businesses have the ability to overcome global uncertainty. This is not only due to the highly innovative and competitive projects of Catalan enterprises, but also thanks to the government's assistance in internationalizing enterprises - in just last year alone, the projects managed by the Catalan Trade and Investment Authority's overseas offices increased by 36% year-on-year.
